    Description

    City status was granted to Roodeport on 1st October 1977, and to mark the special occasion, an official first day cover was issued.  The item consists of an Official First Day Cover, light buff colour, 4"x7”, issued on 1st October 1977 to mark this special occasion, bearing an official seal of the City of Roodepoort City combined with a special gold-colour embossed Roodepoort City logo, also bearing a special postmark and a 4c cancelled postage stamp, and is autographed in black ink by the then Mayor of Roodeport.  The FDC icludes a matching backing cover which contains some printed historical information about the City.  Only one owner well-preserved over the years. In extremely very fine condition.
